| This was my 1st attempt at drawing freehand with a pen & pad within Illustrator. While I am very good at drawing the hand/eye coordination did not come easily for me with this new tool as you can clearly see! |
 |
| I decided to find an image of a fashion model and use it a a croque to trace over instead of drawing my figure freehand. |
 |
| This is my 1st attempt of creating a fashion figure with the help of the above live fashion image. |
Design Competition Preliminary work Round 1
1- Opened illustrator
2- Sketched freehand for the first time to practice using the pen tool.
3- I had unsatisfactory result so I Googled a fashion model jped image and imported it into Illustrator to use as a reference to draw from.
4- I lowered the opacity of the image layer to 30% and created a new layer on top and traced the image on top with a standard brush at 1 pt. thickness.
5- I created a Dress layer where I drew in the horizontal fuchsia lines of the dress, gloves, shoes and lipstick.
6- I added a Skin shadow layer in order to create depth on the image of the model. I used the same color grey but changed to calligraphy tip brush 2pt 30% opacity and added some shadow strokes around the models face, neck, arms and legs in order t create dimension.
7- Next I created a Dress shadow layer and using a calligraphy tip brush at 30% opacity of the same shade of fuchsia 2pt. thickness I brushed in the pleats of the dress. I brushed over and over again areas I wanted to darken in order to create a greater sense of depth and shadow.
8- Next I created a New background layer and used the grunge brush at 10pt thickness I created the orange splash background as a way to ground my fashion image and to also add drama.
9- Lastly I signed it and rotated my signature to its current position.
10- Finally I saved a copy of this image for web & devices in order to post it on my blog.
